Environmental Technology Exhibition (ET) celebrates 20 years of cutting-edge technology

Any business seeking a better understanding of the latest technological advances in carbon management, industrial and commercial waste management, green transport and manufacturing pollution control should head to the NEC in May to The Environmental Technology (ET) three-day exhibition and conference. But what can visitors expect this year at the UK’s leading showcase of environmental technology?

A combination of growing levels of environmental legislation and the practical need to use resources more efficiently means that take-up of environmental technology across the manufacturing sector is growing rapidly.

The concept of sustainability in a sector such as manufacturing, for example, is becoming an increasingly central consideration for companies looking to manage waste and use fewer resources more efficiently. Businesses are therefore focusing on being able to reuse, recycle, redeploy and dispose of materials and products in ways that benefit the bottom-line while ensuring good stewardship of the environment.

One of the best opportunities for business leaders to explore and identify the very latest solutions and find helpful advice and support is the Environmental Technology exhibition (ET), which will celebrate its 20th anniversary when it returns to the NEC Birmingham from 24th - 26th May 2011.

ET provides a showcase for the UK’s largest gathering of companies offering cutting-edge environmental solutions in industry, with exhibitors drawn from sectors ranging from air pollution control and transport carbon reduction, to waste minimisation. The three-day seminar programme which runs alongside the exhibition is an opportunity for business leaders to hear from consultants and industry experts about the latest advice across a diverse range of topics from better recycling to improving air quality.

ET is part of Sustainabilitylive!, and it will once again run alongside the National Energy Management Exhibition (NEMEX), the International Water and Effluent Exhibition (IWEX), Brownfield Expo (BEX), and Sustainable Business (SB) - The Event.

Who’s going to be there?

Visitors will be spoilt for choice with a raft of high-profile companies and institutions already signed up including Environmental Innovations Ltd, NLS, Geotech, Simplifi Solutions Ltd, Birmingham City University, metnet (Marches Environmental Technology Network), Retsch UK Ltd, Rose Plastic, and the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce & Industry.

Sustainabilitylive! attracted just under 9,000 attendees in 2010, and numbers are expected to rise in 2011.

Popular draws will be products and services for carbon management, pollution control, biofuel and biogas, converting waste to energy, commercial and industrial waste management and recycling.

Seminar programme

The busy three-day seminar programme at this year’s event will discuss a wide range of issues that are particularly affecting the manufacturing sector.

Day One has a focus on ‘Tackling Business Waste’ in a series of seminars including a talk by Malcolm Caine, Divisional Director from Jacobs Engineering on the 2010 DEFRA C&I Waste Survey. There are also presentations on recycling, PAS 141, converting waste to energy, and waste management procurement.

On Day Two, there are sessions on the latest legislation, challenges and opportunities of environmental law, and managing firewater spillage. Dr David Dickerson, principal sustainability consultant from Hilson Moran will discuss particulate monitoring and air pollution.

On the final day, expert speakers will explore issues relating to green transport such as sustainable mobility, environmental responsibility, and technology enhancing green transport. Delegates can also attend a session calling for a reduction in the national speed limit to reduce the UK’s carbon emissions by Daniel Scharf a consultant from GreenSpeed.

Meet the Buyer event – a global marketplace

Visitors to ET can also take advantage of the ‘Meet the Buyer’ event hosted by UK Trade & Investment (UKTI). The event, which will be held on Wednesday 25th May, will facilitate one-to-one meetings for UK suppliers with buyers from China, Egypt, Mexico, Portugal, Romania, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey and USA to discuss their procurement needs. Information about advance booking for these meetings will be available shortly on the Sustainabilitylive! website.

Exploring corporate sustainability at Sustainable Business - The Event

Sustainable Business - The Event, an exhibition which runs alongside ET provides a platform for businesses to embrace effective corporate sustainable strategies, and brings into focus key sustainability drivers while focusing on the bottom line.

It attracts high-calibre exhibitors, visitors, and environmental decision-makers across both private and public sector organisations. Exhibitors already signed up include NQA, Envac UK Ltd, Environmental Sustainability KTN, and Toshiba TEC UK Imaging Systems. This year’s lead event sponsor is Siemens plc, with Parsons Brinckerhoff, powerPerfector and BSI now confirmed as co-sponsors.

Its three-day conference will explore topics such as the coalition government’s plans for a low-carbon economy, retrofitting and future-proofing the built environment, and sustainable transport.

Recognising excellence and innovation – the Environment and Energy Awards

The prestigious Environment and Energy Awards recognise excellence and innovation in sustainable business practices across the environment, land, energy and sustainable business sectors, and has attracted a record number of entries for 2011.

This year, the awards will have 13 categories including two new awards: Best Energy-Efficient Refurbishment Award and Best Energy Supplier Customer Service Award.

Winners will be announced at a gala dinner on Tuesday, 24 May 2011 at the National Motorcycle Museum. To book a table contact Stacey Bird on 020 8651 7106.

In 2011, Sustainabilitylive! is partnering with The Prince’s Mayday Network (www.maydaynetwork.com). The Prince’s Mayday Network is the UK’s biggest business led movement of businesses and organisations committed to collectively tackling climate change by mobilising their companies, employees, suppliers and customers.

ET is also supported by the Environmental Industries Commission (EIC); the Society for the Environment, the Institute of Chemical Engineers, the Society of Environmental Engineers, and the Source Testing Association.

It will be held in Halls 3 and 3a at the NEC from 24th – 26th May 2011. For up to date exhibitor news, seminar programmes, information on how to exhibit or how to register for free attendance visit www.sustainabilitylive.com/et2011 or call +44 (0)20 8651 7120.
